Chocolate Cherry Almond Smoothie

With the start of the new year, I always like to make resolutions to try to eat healthier.  I still eat some things that may be unhealthy, but I try to make a conscience effort to put healthier things in my body.  This is especially necessary after all the bad eating that I did during the holidays.
 
I have a huge sweet tooth and so I always am looking for food that is both sweet and healthy.  One of my favorites are smoothies.  You can make so many different smoothie combinations that are sweet due to the fruit in the smoothie.  I usually eat my smoothies for breakfast or for dessert.  I like to make them for dessert because it is a great sweet treat, that is also healthy.
 
 
I decided to make a new sweet smoothie that would be great for me to drink to help me keep my resolution.  I used Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almond Milk to give the smoothie a great creaminess and an almond flavor.  Best of all is that the almond milk makes the smoothie dairy free.  I combined the almond milk with cherries and cocoa powder to make a great Chocolate Cherry Almond Smoothie.  
 
This Chocolate Cherry Smoothie was so delicious and is a great sweet and healthy treat.  I really liked the combination of the chocolate and cherry flavors with the almond milk.  I also added some almond extract to give the smoothie more of an almond flavor.  I also added oats to the smoothie to thicken it up and add more health benefits.  If you don’t want to add the oats, you can just omit them. I used Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almond Milk in the original unsweetened flavor.  You could also use the chocolate flavor instead of unsweetened cocoa powder, if you wish.
This smoothie had a great flavor and I could not stop drinking it.  This is a great way to get in a sweet treat or to eat a healthy breakfast.  This smoothie will be a great way to help me keep my resolution.  My son was also a big fan of this smoothie, so this would be a great sweet treat for the kids as well.  I hope that you enjoy this delicious smoothie and wish you good luck in keeping your resolutions!

 

Chocolate Cherry Almond Smoothie

Yield: 2 smoothies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup cherries, pitted, destemmed, and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup original unsweetened Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almond Milk
  • 1 cup ice

Instructions

  1. Pulse the oats in the blender by themselves until they reach the desired texture.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients into the blender.  Blend together until smooth.
