Today is my son’s birthday. I cannot believe that I have a 4 year old. It is crazy. This summer is going to go really fast. It is already the middle of June, in two weeks will be my husband’s birthday and it will be July already. My husband’s birthday is the day after the 4th of July. Since the 4th falls on a weekend this year it will nice to have a long weekend to celebrate the holiday and my husband’s birthday.
We always like to grill outside or have a picnic for the 4th. Since it is coming up before we know it, I needed to start thinking about what I would make. For the 4th of July I usually make some of fruit salad to go with our meal. I decided to make a festive fruit salad for the holiday by making a Red White and Blue Fruit Salad. I put raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, red apples, and bananas in my fruit salad. I then made a sauce using lemon juice, honey, and vanilla.
This Red White and Blue Fruit Salad tasted fantastic and would be perfect for the 4th of July. I will be making this for our picnic. I really loved the flavor the lemon juice contributed combined with all the different fruits. Also the honey and vanilla added some sweetness to the fruit salad. The fruit salad was really juicy, but I like when all the juices of the fruits blend together. If you want less juice you can just add less lemon juice to it. This fruit salad would make a fantastic addition to your 4th of July table.
**Note: You can substitute the lemon zest with just 2-3 drops of Young Living Essential Oils Lemon Essential Oil.
