Peeps Marshmallow Popcorn Eggs

My son is so excited that Easter is coming up soon.  We went to the mall to visit the Easter Bunny last weekend and this weekend we have an Easter egg hunt with some friends.  I decided I wanted to make a cute Easter treat that my son could help me make.  I thought it would be great to use Peeps in making my Easter treat, since they are one of the most recognizable Easter candies and my son loves them.

I decided to melt the Peeps and combine the marshmallows with popcorn.  I then shaped the popcorn into eggs using plastic Easter eggs. My son loved helping me  measure out the popcorn and throwing the Peeps into the pan and then watching them melt.  He even helped me stir the marshmallows as they were helping.  Be careful though because the marshmallows can get really hot.  We had so much fun making them and the Peeps and popcorn go really well together.
These Peeps Marshmallow Popcorn Eggs are a really fun and easy Easter treat that would be perfect to put in Easter baskets.  These are easily made by melting Peeps and combining them with popcorn.  They are then shaped by using a medium – large sized plastic Easter egg.  Since there are so many colors of Peeps, you can make them in a variety of different colors.  I made pink and yellow popcorn eggs. I love how vibrant the colors turned out! The Peeps also taste fantastic melted and combined with the popcorn.  I hope you make this delicious Easter treat!

Peeps Marshmallow Popcorn Eggs

Serving Size: 4 popcorn eggs

Ingredients

  • 3 cups popped popcorn (I just bought a bag of popped popcorn at the store. You can also use microwave popcorn or make your own)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 10 Peeps of one color (use any color that you would like)
  • Medium to large sized plastic egg for shaping

Instructions

  1. Place the popcorn in a medium sized bowl and set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan melt the butter and the Peeps over medium heat, stirring constantly until melted.
  3. Pour the melted marshmallows over the popcorn and stir to combine.
  4. Clean out the plastic egg and spray with cooking spray.  Also spray your hands with cooking spray. Fill both sides of the egg with the popcorn and close to shape the egg.  Pull the egg out and set aside. Repeat with the remaining popcorn.  Be careful because the marshmallow may be hot.
  5. Makes 4 popcorn eggs.  Repeat process with a different color if desired.
