Garlic Hummus Tuna Pita Sandwich

As it is now a new year I am working on trying to eat healthier. I still love to have desserts and what not in moderation, but I am trying to make sure that some of my meals are healthy.  I want to make sure that my family eats healthier and leads a healthy lifestyle. I am also trying to lose some of the baby weight and get back to my normal weight.
 
As part of the new healthier me this year I am trying to put a healthy twist on some of my favorite meals.  One of my favorite lunches is a tuna fish sandwich.  The only problem is that I love a lot of mayo in my tuna, but that is not necessarily very healthy.  I did some research on alternatives to mayo and the one I came up with the most was Greek Yogurt.  However, since I am lactose intolerant, that was not an option for me.  I then found that hummus can be used as an alternative to mayo and I decided to try making my tuna fish with hummus instead of the traditional mayo.
 
Tuna is a great healthy meal option.  My favorite brand of canned tuna is Bumble Bee®.  Available in either a can or pouch, Bumble Bee® Seafood products are an easy and delicious way to add a variety of nutrients to your diet, including lean protein, healthy fat, and important vitamins and minerals.  Due to this Bumble Bee® Seafood products can be part of a general healthy lifestyle. Tuna is also very versatile and can be used in a number of ways. 
 
 
This Garlic Hummus Tuna Pita Sandwich is a delicious and healthy sandwich that is a great alternative to the traditional tuna fish sandwich.  I started with Bumble Bee® Chunk Light Tuna.  For this sandwich, to make the tuna healthier, I made it with garlic hummus instead of mayo.  The garlic hummus gave the tuna a great garlic flavor and the hummus added a great creaminess to the tuna. This is a great healthy alternative to regular tuna fish.
 
I also added tomatoes and cucumbers to the tuna to give some great flavor and add some vegetables to the sandwich.  I served the sandwich on a healthier pita instead of bread.  I used a pita pocket, which made it easier to put the tuna in.  I made this great sandwich to enjoy for lunch at work so that I had a healthier lunch. I will be bringing this for lunch more often so that I can feel that I am trying to meet my goal of eating healthier.  You should give this a try if you are looking for a healthy version of a tuna fish sandwich.
 
 
 

Garlic Hummus Tuna Pita Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 1 can Bumble Bee®Chunk Light Tuna, drained
  • 2 tablespoons garlic hummus
  • 1/8 cup tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/8 cup cucumbers, chopped
  • 2 Pita Pockets

Instructions

  1. Combine the tuna and hummus together in a small bowl.
  2. Split the tuna evenly between two pita pockets. Then add half of the tomatoes and cucumbers to one pita pocket and the other half to the other pita pocket.
