Loaded Garlic Ranch Mashed Potatoes

To tell you the truth, I’m not the biggest fan of turkey.  In fact, up until recently I didn’t really eat it at all.  I am a big fan of chicken though, which is odd because they are similar.  You’re probably thinking what do I eat during Thanksgiving, if I don’t like turkey.  Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, because of course you can’t go wrong with a holiday centered around food.  To me Thanksgiving is all about the side dishes (and of course the desserts).  The side dishes are what I love about Thanksgiving and I could take or leave the turkey.
My two favorite Thanksgiving side dishes are mashed potatoes and stuffing.  Usually we just have regular mashed potatoes or I make my favorite Garlic and Parmesan Mashed Potatoes.  Over the summer, I made a Loaded Ranch Potato Salad and at that point I thought that it would be great to incorporate those flavors into my favorite mashed potatoes.   What better way to improve mashed potatoes than by adding ranch seasoning, bacon, and cheese, I mean you can’t go wrong with that.
These Loaded Garlic Ranch Mashed Potatoes are fantastic, I think they are the best mashed potatoes I have ever had.  I love the addition of the ranch and garlic flavorings and the bacon and cheese.  These would be the ultimate side for Thanksgiving or they would be perfect any time that you are making mashed potatoes.
I used red potatoes because I like them and because I’m too lazy to peel potato skins.  I also like that the red potatoes are a little lumpy.  You can feel free to use any other type of potato.  The potatoes and garlic cook together, melding the flavors and then are mashed and the ranch, bacon, cheeses, and chives are added in to create the ultimate mashed potato recipe. I don’t think I am ever going back to regular mashed potatoes.  I hope you try this delicious side dish and enjoy!

Loaded Garlic Ranch Mashed Potatoes

  • 3 pounds red potatoes, unpeeled and quartered (can use any other type of potato)
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup milk (I used soy milk)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons ranch dressing seasoning powder
  • 1/2 cup bacon, chopped (I used real bacon bits)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
  • Additional bacon, cheese, and chives for garnish (optional)

  1. Put the potatoes and garlic in a large pan and cover with water.  Bring the water to a boil.
  2. Reduce the heat and simmer for 25 minutes until the potatoes are tender.  Remove from heat and drain the potatoes.
  3. Mash the potatoes and garlic with the butter, milk, and salt.
  4. Then stir in the ranch seasoning, bacon, cheddar cheese, Parmesan Cheese, and chives.
