S’mores Caramel Apples

One of my favorite treats during the fall is caramel apples. I love the ooey gooeyness of the caramel with the freshness and tartness of the apples  Everytime we go to a fall festival I always make sure to pick up some caramel apples.  Until last year I never tried to make them myself.  I was was afraid of melting the caramel and thought I would create a big mess.   It turned out though that making caramel apples was actually easy and the caramel can just be melted easily in the microwave.

This year I decided to try creating a new flavor of caramel apple.  I decided to combine my favorite treat from the summer, s’mores, with my favorite treat from fall, caramel apples, to create S’mores Caramel Apples.  These delicious caramel apples are dipped in caramel, marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crackers to create a ooey gooey apple treat that is perfect for the fall.

These S’mores Caramel Apples were so delicious and really did taste like s’mores with the addition of caramel.  I loved the taste of the s’mores with the crispness of the apple, it tasted fantastic.  I brought some of these over to my in-laws house to share and they were devoured.   This is a fantastic caramel apple and the perfect treat for fall.  You should definitely make these, you won’t regret it!

S’mores Caramel Apples

S’mores Caramel Apples

Ingredients

  • 3-5 apples (depending on size), washed and dried
  • 3-5 sticks
  • 1 bag (11 ounces) caramels, unwrapped and melted
  • 1 bag (10.5 ounces) mini marshmallows
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips, melted
  • 1 cup graham crackers, crushed

Instructions

  1. Insert a popsicle stick into the stem end of each apple.
  2. Cover a large plate or a cookie sheet with wax paper. Spray the wax paper with cooking spray and set aside.
  3. Melt the caramels according to the directions on the package. Then dip the apples into the melted caramel until they are evenly coated. Spoon caramel over the top to cover the top of the apples. Then place the apples on the plate. Refrigerate the apples for an hour or place in the freezer for about 10 minutes or until the caramel is dried.
  4. Once the caramel is hardened, melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until melted. Dip the apples into the marshmallow and then place on the plate. Refrigerate for about 15 minutes or until set.
  5. Once the marshmallow is set on the apple, put the crushed graham crackers in a small bowl. Then melt the milk chocolate chips according to the package directions. Dip the apple in the melted chocolate. Then move the apple over to the bowl with the graham crackers and cover the chocolate with the crushed graham crackers. Put back on the plate and refrigerate until the chocolate is hardened.
