Salted Caramel Apple Bread Pudding

Today I’m back with another apple recipe that is great for fall or really for anytime.  I really love this time of year, in the early fall, before it gets too cold out.  I love how it is not as hot outside but that it is still comfortable enough that you can go without a jacket or just with a light jacket or sweater.  I really love when the leaves begin to change colors, especially when they are a red or yellow color.  I think this time of year is perfect and I always enjoy all the fall festivals and especially all the apples.
I live in Pennsylvania, which is a huge producer of apples.  One of the counties about a half hour from us is filled with apple orchards and they have a big apple festival every year.  While we probably won’t go to the apple festival this year because of the baby, it is one of my favorite things.  You can go and buy all sorts of products made with fresh local apples and of course the apples themselves are fantastic.
Since I been on a big apple baking kick, I thought it would be a great idea to make a bread pudding using apples.  A few months ago I made a Salted Caramel Pina Colada Bread Pudding and thought that the salted caramel combination would go great with apples as well. I decided to use apple pie filling and combine it with salted caramel to make a delicious bread pudding.
This Salted Caramel Apple Bread Pudding is a great dessert for the fall or for anytime.  I think the apple flavored bread pudding tasted fantastic and went really well with the layers of salted caramel.  To me apples and caramel are made to be together and the flavor combination is fantastic in this bread pudding.  We loved the bread pudding and I really loved the apple and caramel flavors throughout.  I can’t wait to make this delicious treat again and I hope you enjoy!

Salted Caramel Apple Bread Pudding

Salted Caramel Apple Bread Pudding

  • 6 cups cubed bread (I used a round loaf of bread)
  • 2 cups milk (I used soy milk)
  • 4 eggs
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups apple pie filling
  • 1/2 cup caramel ice cream sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a medium sized bowl whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla until combined.
  3. Chop up the apples contained in the 1 1/2 cups of apple pie filling into smaller pieces. Then add the apple pie filling into the milk and egg mixture.
  4. Place the bread crumbs in a large bowl and pour the milk and apple mixture on top of the bread. Fold the ingredients together making sure to moisten all of the bread. Allow the bread mixture to stand for 10 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, mix the caramel ice cream sauce and sea salt together until combined.
  6. Pour half of the bread mixture into a greased 8x8 baking dish. Press the bread to form an even layer. Spread half of the salted caramel sauce on top of the bread layer. Then pour the other half of the bread mixture on top of the salted caramel sauce and press into an even layer. Spread the remaining salted caramel sauce on top.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the bread pudding is set. Let the pudding cool for at least 20 minutes before serving. If it will not be served right away, refrigerate until ready to serve. It can then be served cold or heated up. If desired, serve with additional salted caramel sauce on top.
