About 3 years ago my husband and I went on a cruise to Canada. We left from New York City and stopped at St. John, New Brunswick, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. We had a great time! One night for dinner, I didn’t feel like having anything else on the menu, so I picked pasta with vodka sauce. I had never had vodka sauce before and had never even heard of it before. The sauce was delicious and was a little lighter than a traditional red sauce.
I knew I had to try making pasta with vodka sauce and found that they sell the sauce in the store. We tried making the pasta with chicken and shrimp, which were both good, but we found that the sauce went the best with sausage. This is one of our go to meals, and we always keep the ingredients in the house. This meal is easy and the sauce is delicious.
This is a great meal since there are only three ingredients and it makes a lot, so we always have leftovers. Everyone should try making this sauce as an alternative to traditional red sauce. It goes so well with sausage and makes a great meal. Enjoy!!
Sausage with Penne and Vodka Sauce
1 lb. of smoked sausage
1 box (about 14 ounces) whole wheat penne pasta (can substitute regular pasta)
1 jar (24 ounces) Vodka Sauce
Parmesan Cheese (optional)
1. Put the sausage on a cookie sheet and cook in the oven for 25-30 minutes or cook in a skillet over medium heat until browned. (I like to cook the sausage in the oven because I feel it gives it more flavor). Remove from the oven or stove and cube the sausage.
2. Meanwhile, cook the whole wheat penne according to the package directions.
3. Heat the sauce on medium heat until it boils and then lower the heat and simmer until the pasta is done, stirring occasionally.
4. Combine the sausage, pasta, and sauce. Serve with Parmesan Cheese.
