Bacon Cheeseburger Roll-Up

This is a great dinner idea for a weeknight because it is easy to make and does not take too long. It is also something that kids and adults will like because it combines pizza with a bacon cheeseburger.  This is really good, it reminds me of eating a bacon cheeseburger in a stromboli form. I used ground turkey (since I don’t like beef), but ground beef can be substituted instead. This is a good comfort food. This is a meal that we have had many times and will continue to make.

Bacon Cheeseburger Roll-Up
(Recipe adapted from Kraft Food & Family Magazine, Spring 2007)

1 lb. ground turkey (can substitute ground beef)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
4 slices of bacon, chopped
1/2 lb (8 ounces) Velveeta, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 refrigerated pizza crust
Marinara Sauce (optional)

1.  Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

2.  Cook the ground turkey and bacon in a large skillet on medium-high heat until the ground turkey is evenly browned, stirring occasionally. While the turkey and bacon are cooking add the garlic powder and the Italian Seasoning.  Drain and then return the meat to the skillet.  Add the Velveeta and then cook until completely melted, stirring frequently.  Remove from the heat and set aside.

3.  Unroll the pizza dough on a greased cookie sheet.  Press the pizza dough into a large rectangle.  Top evenly with the meat and cheese mixture.  Roll up the dough, starting at one of the long sides.  Put the roll, seam-side down on the cookie sheet.

4.  Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.  Cut to serve and serve with marinara sauce.
